When communicating with your spouse, it’s important to remember that from the other side of the table, what looks like a 6 to you looks like a 9 to the other person.

Life is not like a sports highlight film. It’s lived out day to day with both highlights and lowlights, and everything in between.

We live in a very reactive society. Yet reacting (without thinking) usually leads to disaster, while responding (with thinking) most often leads to success.

As parents, we need to verbalize our love. If we don’t say it, it won’t be truly captured in the hearts of our children.

Humanitarianism (love for people put into action) is not the same as humanism (the worship of self).

While it’s very important to teach our children to share, it’s equally important to remember that asking them to share their toys is like asking us to share our car or our house.

After about 43 years of being able to read, it still simply amazes me how a good book can take you away into a whole other world.

There are only 3 questions that must be answered when you desire to make a change in your life: what do I want to change? - why do I want to change it? - how do I go about changing it?

When it comes to figuring out the meaning of a person’s behavior, once can be an isolated incident, twice can be a coincidence, three times is a pattern.

Here’s two quick ways to change your mood: 1) change the way you are using your body, sit differently, stand strong, get your head up, 2) change what you focus on, because if you focus on what you can’t do, you’re right. And if you focus on what you can do, you’re right.

Understanding where a behavior comes from is not as important as changing the behavior, just as understanding where a problem comes from is not as important as solving the problem.

The best quote I’ve come across lately: It’s easy to carry the past as a burden instead of a school. It’s easy to let it overwhelm you instead of educate you. - Jim Rohn

The other best quote I’ve read lately comes from speaker and author Stephen Covey: “The place to start is not with the assumption that work is non-negotiable; it’s with the assumption that family is non-negotiable. That one shift of mind-set opens the door to all kinds of creative possibilities.” Amen.
